Day 1 Fly USA to Livingstone (Via Johannesburg)

Day 2 Welcome to Livingstone, Zambia
Upon arrival into Livingstone Airport, please make your way through passport and immigration.  Here you will be required to pay for your Zambian visa which is currently $80 per person.  Please ensure that you ask the official for a multiple or double entry visa if necessary and please double check that you have received the correct visa, before proceeding to collect your luggage.  Once you have your luggage make your way into the arrivals hall where you will be met by our representative.   You will be   transferred directly for a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.  At 1,708 meters wide, it is the largest curtain of water in the world and drops more than 100 meters into the sheer Zambezi Gorge.

Day 3 Travel to Linyanti
After a full breakfast, we leave Zambia and enter the Chobe National Park in Botswana by way of the Kazungula border, a point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe meet.

The Chobe National Park is famous for its vast herds of elephants and unique species such as the elusive puku and Chobe bushbuck that move to the river during the hottest hours of the day - even more so in the dry season. Enjoy a light lunch served during the boat cruise on the catamaran-style shaded boat, after which we depart by aircraft in the late afternoon for the Linyanti region, from the airstrip game driving to our pre-erected Adventurer campsite. The north-eastern corner of the Linyanti is famed for its myriad of changing landscapes with sweeping views, from riverine to savannah and from forest to plains.

The Linyanti region's life-giving perennial waters attract herds of wildlife that walk well-worn game paths to slake their thirst in the dry season. Predators follow in their footsteps and, coupled with the area's diversity of habitat, make for exciting game viewing.

Day 4-5 Linyanti Region
The 125 000-hectare (308 000-acre) private Linyanti Concession bordering Chobe National Park's western boundary is an enormous, wildlife-rich area, shared between just three small camps (DumaTau, Kings Pool and Savuti Camp), which creates an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space.

There are three main features of the Linyanti Concession: the Linyanti River, the woodlands of the interior and the well-known Savute Channel, famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse. The Channel last flowed in 1980; today it is an open grassland and home to a wide variety of animals. With two-thirds of the Channel located in the concession, Wilderness Safaris guests have private and exclusive access to its abundant game.

These three features together with the floodplains, woodlands, grasslands, palm islands and scrub vegetation of the area harbor one of the densest dry season concentrations of elephant in Botswana - at times the Linyanti must have several thousand elephants roaming around. This phenomenon is one of the main attractions for travelers to northern Botswana, but the area is also important in holding good numbers of predators, providing an integral stronghold for species like the critically endangered wild dog, as well as lion, cheetah and spotted hyena. The roan antelope found in the area can provide an equal thrill however, as can the high concentration of birds of prey, seasonal zebra congregations and the cathedral-like woodland of mature mopane trees.

Aside from roan, other plains game includes red lechwe, Burchell's zebra, blue wildebeest, impala, common waterbuck, sable, eland, southern giraffe, chacma baboon, vervet monkey, warthog, hippo and Cape buffalo. Nocturnal species often seen are lesser bushbaby, spring hare, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and if you are extremely lucky the elusive pangolin!

Birding is outstanding here ranging from the Okavango specials, such as Slaty Egret, Hartlaub's Babbler, African Skimmer, Allen's Gallinule and Wattled Crane, to the drier mopane woodland species like Racket-tailed Roller, Bradfield's Hornbill, White-breasted Cuckoo-shrike, Bennett's Woodpecker, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater and Arnott's Chat. This area is also excellent for Kori Bustard, Ostrich, Secretarybird, and Ground Hornbill with Southern Carmine Bee-eaters in summer. The Savute Channel is famous as an area with a high concentration of eagles and raptors and this area is internationally recognized as an IBA (Important Bird Area), particularly for birds of prey like Dickinson's Kestrel and water birds. There are also various owl species to be seen here such as Verreaux's (Giant) Eagle-Owl and African Scops-Owl.

The many varied habitats within these areas - marshes, waterways, riverine forests, dry woodlands and grasslands - and the prolific and diverse wildlife and spectacular scenery together form a wonderful contrast to the Okavango. Adding this area to a Botswana itinerary makes for a varied and balanced experience of the country and in many ways it is an essential complement to a visit to the Okavango.

Day 6 Fly Linyanti to Okavango Delta
After breakfast, we drive to the airstrip for light aircraft transfer to Khwai Adventurer Camp.

Khwai Adventurer Camp is located in a private concession just north of the Khwai River above the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai Concession is one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana which seldom disappoints when it comes to producing extraordinary wildlife experiences. The life source for this area is the Khwai River - the northernmost “finger” of the Okavango Delta alluvial fan, which provides vital sustenance to numerous animals.

Day 7 Okavango Delta
Over time, the Khwai area has metamorphosed into a wide range of exciting wildlife habitats - some of the most varied to be found in the entire Okavango Delta: a blend of forests, floodplain, wetland and grasslands. The narrow Khwai Channel is home to large mammals such as hippo and crocodile with buffalo and red lechwe often seen grazing along the fringe. The beautiful gallery riverine woodland found along the river provides further sanctuary to birds, primates and leopard. Elusive roan antelope often come to the river to drink. Activities focus around day and night game drives, nature walks and seasonal mekoro excursions.

Away from the river there is a wonderful mix of acacia and leadwood trees of varying sizes that abuts into mopane woodland. The latter, together with the permanent presence of water, attracts large numbers of elephant to the area. Larger predators include lion, wild dog and spotted hyaena, while birdlife found here is just as varied thanks to the colorful palette of habitats.

Day 8 Travel to Moremi Game Reserve
We fly by light aircraft to the water-filled paradise of the remote Xigera area, within the Moremi Game Reserve. Xigera is the ultimate Okavango Delta experience, with serene waters flowing through innumerable channels around remote islands and a profusion of plant and animal birdlife.

There is no better way to experience the Okavango than to travel through it by mekoro, walking and camping out on a vegetated island - all essential elements of the Xigera Mekoro Trails. The experience is aimed at highlighting the permanently flooded inner Delta, in the serene waterways and on the islands of trees and bush.

Activities include mekoro and walking safaris on remote islands, which enable up-close encounters with an excellent diversity of birdlife (including Pel's Fishing-Owl), frogs and some game species, some specially adapted to water, such as the familiar red lechwe. Walking activities vary in length and duration depending on the season, especially in the months when the Okavango is at peak flood (June, July and August) where walks become shorter as more islands are flooded.

Days 9-10 Moremi Game Reserve
Being the largest inland delta in the world, game abounds year round including lion, elephant, hyena, wild dog, buffalo, hippo and crocodile that congregate with a teeming variety of antelope and other smaller animals.  The Okavango rests between shallow fault lines at the end of the Great African Rift Valley.  Deserts are low on annual rainfall and the Okavango Delta is no exception.

However, each year floodwater flows into the Okavango from its source in the moist African highlands.  These floodwaters flow from their catchment southwards and into the Kalahari Desert to create a unique wetland that supports and sustains a huge diversity of wildlife.  Apart from the beauty of the wetland habitat, game viewing is excellent all year round.  Enjoy morning and afternoon game activities.

Day 11 Fly Maun to USA (Via Johannesburg)
Transfer to the airstrip to connect with your light aircraft transfer to Maun Airport. Upon arrival, connect with your scheduled onward flight to Johannesburg Airport, then board your flight back to the USA.
