From an extremely warm welcome from Patrick Griffin (GM) all the way through the hotel, it takes the stress away from the flight you have just had. The polished mahogany armoire holds an individual CD, DVD and video player, as well as a stereo television set with 24-hour international news service. Tea and coffee making facilities, along with a fully stocked mini bar are discreetly enclosed in a mahogany buffet, while an in-room safe sits in the polished cedar wardrobe along with slippers, an umbrella and a selection of amenities.

Each room has a luxurious marble bathroom with an oversize bath, heated towel racks, separate bath and shower, double vanities, detachable hairdryers and fax/modem lines for high speed broadband internet access.

Deluxe Rooms

The Deluxe Rooms have the comfortable, cozy atmosphere of a 'home away from home'.  Elegantly appointed with mahogany custom-made furniture, each room features King, Queen or Twin beds and is decorated with the utmost attention to detail.

Rich tapestry curtains, set off by rope tasseled tiebacks, provide the perfect backdrop for the antique-style breakfast table and down-filled armchair, while Colonial-style sash windows open to circulate fresh air and provide charming views of Observatory Hill and historic Walsh Bay. Room facilities include DVD player and broadband internet.

Junior Suites

Individual character, exceptional furnishings, spaciousness and elegant charm distinguish the Junior Suites. Each features wood-paneled walls adorned with etchings of Australian native birds and botanicals, and original sketches of Sydney at the turn of the century. Many have balconies with views of the inner Sydney Harbour of Walsh Bay, Darling Harbour or the city.

Junior Suites also have a relaxing sitting area, with sofa and armchairs within the same room, and include a facsimile machine with its own dedicated number, DVD player and broadband internet.

Executive Suites

Named after the carriages of the legendary Orient-Express, Executive Suites at The Observatory Hotel are renowned for their classic elegance, exquisite fittings and intimate charm. All Executive Suites feature separate sitting rooms, with full bar facilities, as well as dedicated facsimile machines, modem lines, CD and DVD players, and broadband internet.

Many of them feature domed ceilings, arch windows and traditional four-poster beds and some also have balconies with charming views of Observatory Hill, or the inner Sydney Harbor of Walsh Bay and Darling Harbor with its beautiful sunsets.

The Observatory Suite

The hotel's most spectacular suite is intimate, luxurious and filled with objets d'art. The bedroom features a magnificent four-poster bed with mahogany hand carved front posts, as well as a spacious en suite bathroom lined with wall-to-wall Pretorian marble. It also features a fully equipped kitchen and guest toilet, and has interconnecting doors to deluxe rooms either side, if required.

Furnished with elegant, custom-made furniture, the sitting room's pale cream color scheme is offset by the black and gold, oriental style coffee table and armoire cabinet. The sofa and armchairs face a magnificent white marble, antique fireplace, highlighted by a classic oil painting of Mosman Bay.

Original artworks and an antique, gilt framed mirror cover the rich, fabric lined walls and provide the perfect backdrop for the antique walnut writing desk and elegant mahogany dining table with Queen Anne chairs. The rich tasseled curtains at each window frame charming views of historic and heritage listed Observatory Hill. Room facilities include DVD player and broadband internet.

Dining

The Observatory Hotel is renowned for its fine cuisine, ranging from elegant dining in Galileo Restaurant to the light menu in the club-like Globe Bar.

Opulently decorated with Fortuny fabrics and original art, Galileo offers an exciting cuisine based upon a traditional French style with the delights of a tantalizing Japanese influence, complemented by an extensive cellar featuring the best Australian and international wines.

Globe Bar offers a selection of contemporary and traditional Australian dishes, ideal for a light lunch or post-theater supper.

Galileo Restaurant
Galileo offers an exciting  cuisine based upon a traditional French style with the delights of a tantalizing Japanese influence set in an atmosphere reminiscent of London’s famous Venetian restaurant, Harry’s Bar.

Richly appointed with antiques, fine tapestries and polished walnut furniture, Galileo combines quiet elegance with the relaxed informality of a typical Sydney restaurant.

Arno caricatures and sketches from early editions of Vogue Magazine,

courtesy of the famous Harry's Bar, cover the Fortuny silk and cedar clad walls, providing a perfect backdrop for the 17th-century leather, Venetian dividing screen and the highly polished parquet floor.

In the center of the room, a magnificent antique crystal, six-arm chandelier crowns the mahogany pedestal table, while the colonial-style sash windows, framed by exquisite Fortuny silk curtains, afford charming views of the historic streetscape of Miller's Point.

The Globe Bar

The Globe Bar, with its intimate, club atmosphere and comfortable old-world charm, provides light meals in a quiet, relaxing haven away from the crowds.

Furnished with lush, velvet sofas and leather wing armchairs, and featuring a long, marble-topped bar flanked by soft green leather bar stools, green and gold table lamps adorn the polished mahogany side tables, while a large, hand-tufted rug covers the honed, sandstone-colored marble floor.

The Bar's cedar-paneled walls feature original oils depicting scenes of Captain

Cook and his voyage around Australia, evoking a mood of travel and adventure from a bygone era. In keeping with the travel theme, you will find bookcases filled with rare, old books on travel, Australian natural history and astronomy, and the antique celestial globe that is the focal point of the Globe Bar.

Things to do

Sydney is renowned for its relaxed lifestyle and The Observatory Hotel is no exception.  Whatever the season, the hotel's 20-meter heated pool, mirrored by a ceiling of fiber optic lights designed to recreate the constellations of the southern hemisphere, beckons invitingly, while the more energetic may work out in the gymnasium, equipped with the latest computerized training equipment.

Alternatively you may enjoy a game of tennis. Located across the road from the hotel, the tennis court is the only one in Sydney’s CBD and is accessible to guests and the public.

In contrast, what could be more relaxing than a visit to The Observatory Day Spa, with a wide choice of body and skin treatments, using Dermalogica and Li'Tya products, including facials, body wraps, ancient therapies, mud masks, and massages.

Superbly located in the Historic Rocks District, The Observatory Hotel is also the ideal base from which to explore Sydney.  Only ten minutes walk to Circular Quay and Sydney Harbor, this area provides access the Sydney's most popular attractions and leisure activities.
