Set on 6,500 acres near Matauri Bay, Northland,
The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs affords spectacular
180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and
overlooks our championship golf course. The
beautiful panoramic view encompasses Cape Brett,
the famous “hole in the rock” and the Cavalli
Islands.
The main lodge hosts a spacious living room, two
private day rooms, computer room, fully equipped
fitness room and spa treatment rooms.
Eleven outlying guest cottages, each with two
guest suites, provide accommodation at Kauri
Cliffs. The cottages are nestled on the edge of
native forest over looking the ocean and golf
course and have been designed to offer the same
stunning 180-degree vista as the main lodge.
Every suite consists of its own private veranda,
comfortable bedroom with sitting area, open
fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and spacious
bathroom. |

Accommodation
Kauri Cliffs consists of eleven outlying guest
cottages, each with two guest suites providing
twenty-two accommodation units at Kauri Cliffs.
Every suite offers its own private porch,
comfortable bedroom with sitting area and open
fireplace, walk-in his and hers wardrobes and a
bathroom with a shower, bathtub and his and hers
vanities. The cottages are nestled on the edge
of a native forest overlooking the ocean and
golf course. |

Cottage Bedroom
The eleven cottages comprise 16 deluxe units
(approximately 900 square feet) and 6 standard
units (approximately 765 square feet) which are
nestled on the edge of native bush looking east
from private verandas across the golf course and
the Pacific Ocean. They are in a staggered row
to the north of the main lodge building along a
meandering tree studded path.

player, super-king bed (able to be split into 2
super-singles), rattan armchairs, writing desk
and ottomans.
Security Rooms
There are two “security” rooms in addition to
the 22 Deluxe and Standard suites. Featuring two
single beds, in suite bathroom and wardrobe,
these rooms are used predominantly for
accompanying security, drivers, minders or
children. |

Owners Cottage
This large (4,200 square foot) two-suite house
is positioned with the main lounge and two
bedrooms overlooking the ocean and golf course
towards the Bay of Islands.
The house has a private infinity swimming pool
and hot tub and easy access to all lodge
amenities. There are outdoor barbecue and
cooking facilities for the chef if private,
in-house dining is preferred. |

There are open fireplaces in the bedrooms and
the main lounge. There are two bathrooms and a
powder room in the house. A small office can be
converted into a third bedroom ideal for
children or a nanny. |

Dining
Gourmet a la carte dining is available in the
main dining room or on the verandas.
Breakfast
Breakfast is a buffet of local and imported
fruits, home-made muesli and cereals, yogurts
and freshly baked muffins. In addition, a hot
menu featuring eggs, pancakes, crisp bacon, ham,
sausages and ricotta hotcakes may be ordered. |

Lunch
A formal three-course lunch is available.
Alternatively, there are a variety of
sandwiches, salads and desserts to choose from.
Picnics
Wonderful picnic sites abound on the property.
There are three secluded beaches, several
waterfalls and stands of magnificent bush. A
choice of delicious picnic lunches is available.
Cocktail Hour
The cocktail hour is an excellent time to meet
fellow guests. Hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and a
wide range of wines, beer and spirits are
available. |

Dinner
The a la carte dinner menu changes nightly and
features local produce and seafood. The best New
Zealand lamb and beef are served. Chef's Neil
Brazier and Dale Gartland oversee the culinary
team. Pastry chef Korey Field is also a master
of exotic and tempting desserts.
Dinner Attire
Gentlemen are required to wear jackets during
cocktails and dinner. Jackets are available to
borrow. Room service and private dining are
available.

Things to Do
The complimentary lodge facilities include fully
equipped exercise room, tennis courts and a
heated infinity pool and spa. If you are feeling
energetic, take one of our 5 mountain bikes and
discover the property while getting a great work
out!
We strongly recommend a guided property tour by
4WD. This is a relaxing way to get an overview
of all that Kauri Cliffs offers while enjoying
an informative narration by the local staff. |

If you are feeling a little more active, you
might enjoy a guided nature trail walk. The
nature trail guide, Dr Greg Blunden is one of
New Zealand’s top experts on native flora, fauna
and bird life. He specializes in the protection
of the kiwi bird and has been instrumental in
setting up the predator eradication program on
the property and developing the walking trails.
Dr Blunden can take you on your personally
guided tour along our nature walking trails or
by luxury 4WD if you prefer.
This is a fully working farm and the guided farm
tour is a must do experience. |

Join farm manager Mike as he completes his
rounds. Watch in amazement as the farm dogs work
by whistle commands with our cattle and our mobs
of Coopworth sheep. Sheep shearing is an art
requiring strength and dexterity and all guests
thoroughly enjoy this impressive demonstration.
Scenic Boat Charters
This is the perfect way to explore the Bay of
Islands and there are a number of options
available including private charters. Charters
will be guided totally by your mood, stop at a
secluded bay to picnic and swim or simply sit
back with a glass of wine and take in the
scenery.
Boats range between $540.00 and $5000.00 per

Scenic Flights
Capture the beauty of Northland and the Bay Of
Islands by air and experience some of the most
dramatic coastline New Zealand has to offer.
This is the perfect way to put this stunning
scenery into perspective. See the meeting of
the oceans at Cape Reinga, the northern most
point of New Zealand with its landmark
lighthouse. Take in the awesome sights of the
famous Cape Brett and the “hole in the rock”.
Helicopter tours can leave directly from Kauri
Cliffs and small aircraft flights can be
arranged departing from Paihia.

Day Tours
Visit KeriKeri, the “birthplace of a
nation” with its historic Stone Store and Kemp
House. KeriKeri is known for its orchards and
art and you will find many roadside stalls
selling oranges, kiwifruit and avocados. Take a
walk to Rainbow Falls through a serene track of
native bush or a guided tour of the Puketi
Forest with its ancient Kauri trees.
Visit the lively café scene or some of the many
local art and craft stores. Discover the
handmade treasures at the Kauri Kaleidoscope
Workshop in Waipapa. Make sure and stop by the
Parrot Place, home to hundreds of
colourful parrots from New Zealand and around
the world.
Visit the historic treaty house at Waitangi
where the pact between Maori leaders and Queen
Victoria was signed in 1840. The lovely grounds,
museum, Maori meetinghouse and world’s largest
war canoe make this a truly unique trip. A short
ride away is Paihia
where you can
stroll among the many souvenir stores and along
the wharf where a boat just may be returning
with its catch for viewing.
From Paihia wharf, take the short ferry ride to
Russell and visit the quaint whaling
village and New Zealand’s original capital. Have
lunch at the Duke of Marlborough, one of
the original old whaling pubs appointed in
colonial décor.
Take a trip to Tane Mahuta or “Lord of
the Forest” in the famous Waipoua forest. This
giant kauri tree has the largest girth of any
tree in the world and we guarantee it will take
your breath away. Guided walks are available.
Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga
Maori describe the very top of the North Island
as “Te Hiku o te Ika a Maui” – the tail of the
fish of Maui. According to legend, the North
Island was once a giant fish pulled out of the
sea by Maui from his canoe, the South Island.
Wellington forms the head of the fish, and at
the tip of the fish’s tail stands Cape Reinga.
Stand at the tip of Cape Reinga and see the
meeting of the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea,
an inspiring experience that should not be
missed.
Ninety Mile Beach is located on the rugged West
Coast. The breath taking, endless sand dunes
can be explored by all-terrain vehicles.

The Cultural Center at
KeriKeri
This state of the art theatre and convention
complex is brand new to KeriKeri. Here at Kauri
Cliffs we offer preferred seating to all plays,
concerts, exhibitions and musicals. 2006
schedules feature the New Zealand Opera and New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Adventure
Jet Boating/Hole in the
Rock
A unique experience consisting of 1.5 hours of
accelerated adventure through the islands. If
conditions permit, Excitor passes through the
famous “hole in the rock”; this is not a ride
for the faint hearted!

Parasailing
Quite literally, get a “birds eye view”
of the Bay Of Islands! This is a serene and
exhilarating experience and suitable for any
age. Once out above the water you will feel the
thrill of flying and you won’t want to come

and circles the beautiful Bay. Solo and tandem
flights are available.

Horse Treks

Sea Kayaking
There is no better way to enjoy this
sub-tropical paradise than by sea kayak. It’s
all about the water here and the Bay Of Islands
is one of New Zealand’s premium paddling
locations. This is as gentle or as challenging
an experience as you wish and your guide will
tailor a tour to your experience level.

Diving and Snorkelling
The Bay Of Islands is home to many scenic dives
locations where you will encounter plentiful
marine life, crayfish, kina, paua, seahorses,
octopus and masses of schooling fish. The
“Rainbow Warrior” is one of the worlds top

Islands, a short distance from Kauri Cliffs.

Fishing
Zane Grey described New Zealand as ‘an anglers
El Dorado’ and nowhere is this more so than the
Bay of Islands. At Kauri Cliffs we have access
to a large fleet of world-class charter boats
and highly experienced skippers. Whether it’s
Game fishing for Marlin and Yellow Fin Tuna or
Bottom fishing for snapper, charters can be
arranged for all interests and skill levels.

fishing experience, our local fishing
guide will take you land-based fishing from one
of our private beaches. You may well hook a

Possum Hunting
Everybody loves a Possum Hunt but more
importantly New Zealand flora and fauna benefit
from every possum killed. Darcy, your guide,
will all but guarantee a bounty but remember to
wear warm clothing, as this is an after dark
activity.

Pheasant Shooting
Kauri Cliffs is pleased to introduce an exciting
new sporting activity – Pheasant Shooting. Over
3,000 pheasants inhabit our forests and native
bush covered valleys. We offer the very best
professional guides, hunting dogs, top of the
line equipment and provide all hunting licenses.
The Pheasant shooting season runs from mid May
to mid August
Boar Hunting
Wild Boar are plentiful in the area. Join Mike
our farm manager on a traditional New Zealand
pig hunt. This is an early morning activity and
can be very strenuous. Boar can be hunted with a
gun, or as the New Zealanders prefer,
mano-a-mano with a knife.
