Departs on Tuesday

Day 1 Fly USA to Port Moresby (Via Brisbane)
Please note international air from the USA has not been included in the package price.

Day 2 You cross the International Dateline
The International Date Line is an imaginary line on the earth’s surface that approximately coincides with the 180th meridian (LONGITUDE), and separates the calendar date. Traveling east across the line takes the traveler back one day; traveling west, takes the traveler forward one day.

Day 3 Welcome to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Port Moresby lies on the southeast shore of New Guinea and is built around Fairfax Harbor, the island’s largest harbor. Europeans became aware of this port city when British explorer John Moresby sailed through the Gulf of Papua in 1873. About 15 years later, Great Britain established the colony of British New Guinea here, and named Port Moresby the capital.

Day 4 Fly Port Moresby to Tari
Transfer to the airport for your charter flight to Tari. The Southern Highlands is where Tari is located and it is truly a tribal wonderland. Clans in the Southern Highlands have a strong and intricate social system little affected by change.

It is one of the few places where the traditional way of life can be seen in everyday living. Ceremonial rituals are strongly observed. Men and women can be seen wearing traditional dress as part of daily living and a man's wealth is still counted by the number of pigs and wives he possesses.

Days 5-6 Cultural and Ecological Tour
Enjoy two full days of cultural and ecological touring. The Tari area is home to an incredible 13 species of birds of paradise, as well as numerous orchid species. Learn how the Huli live and how they interact with and use their environment.

Venture along nature trails with traditional vine bridges, take pictures of secluded waterfalls, and possibly even the bird of paradise. The flamboyant Huli Wigmen of the Tari Valley have formed a strong bond between themselves and these beautiful birds, men revere the birds by imitating them in both daily and ceremonial life, decorating their human hair wigs with the plumage of only the most beautiful birds.

Day 7 Fly Tari to Karawari
Fly by charter aircraft to Karawari. The country between Ambua and the Sepik region is an amazing array of jagged limestone that seem to rise and drop at impossible angles. Transfer by river boat to your accommodation.

Day 8 Karawari Touring
Wake up to the chattering of Lorikeets and Eclectus Parrots. After breakfast enjoy touring programs that provide insight into the amazing ecology and culture of the Karawari area.

Day 9 Fly Karawari to Mount Hagen
Fly by charter from Karawari to Mount Hagen, during the flight mountains rise up to startling heights out of the flat lands of the Sepik Basin. Mount Hagen town is in the upper Wahgi Valley – a valley with some of the oldest evidence of agriculture in the world.

Day 10 Mount Hagen and Whagi Valley Tour
The Mount Hagen area is the home of the Melpa people, a people with a strong culture, who in the face of moderninity, still live largely traditional subsistence lifestyles. In the mountains surrounding the Wahgi Vally lives a stunning array of bird, orchid and plant life.

Day 11 Fly Mount Hagen to Brisbane (Via Port Moresby)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Brisbane, Australia. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle.

Don’t let Brisbane’s easy-going sub-tropical ambience fool you. There is plenty to do; visit islands, savor mouth-watering cuisine and fine local wines or soak up the arts or sporting lifestyle. The beer gardens and verandas alone say it all – you can’t beat Brisbane’s lifestyle. It’s warm most of the year and the locals are friendly. Despite the unhurried tempo, there is always something to do.

Day 12 Fly Brisbane to USA
Transfer to the airport by private vehicle for your departure flight.
