Back in September of 2006, Swain Tours ran a contest at the annual Aussie Specialist Corroboree Convention held in Cairns, Australia, and we asked the attendees to send in a photo of their favorite “Secret of Australia”! The lucky winner would receive a brand new Canon Digital Camera. Many wonderful photos of interesting locations, places, and people from all over Australia were mailed and emailed over to us, and it was difficult to choose just one photo. Out of all the entries we received, we felt that Polly Pyle’s photo of Wineglass Bay in Tasmania, taken from a single - prop plane was a great “Secret of Australia”! Wineglass Bay is a familiar image to many people who are familiar with travel to Australia, however, not many people have experienced the unique thrill of flying over this very scenic area in a small plane which is captured in this shot. We asked Polly to explain the photo in her own words:

Congratulations, Polly!

I loved everything about my recent visit to the island state of Tasmania! A highlight was our flight-seeing experience over the east coast and Wineglass Bay in particular. A small group of three were flown in our single-prop Cessna 206, piloted by Daniel for Par Avion. We flew over pastoral land, fishing communities and oyster farms, and beautiful coast line en route to the spectacular scenery of Wineglass Bay, which is only accessible by boat or on foot. This beautiful stretch of white sand surrounded by rugged mountains and seen from the air was breathtaking! If you are pressed for time to visit Freycinet by land or you are drawn to see this national park by air, this is a very special way to experience its beauty!
